Pottery, Quilting, Sewing, Tie Dye, Knitting, Crocheting, Watercolors! Here's where I'll share all that I'm working on, project by project.
These Christmas Luminaries were hand built with BLACK clay. As I was putting them on the shelf to go in for bisque firing, I was thinking about glaze, for this piece with horizontal texture, broken up by randomly placed light apertures. They are very thick, slab rolled to 5/8ths.
I think the glaze for these needs to be the star, because I have shape repetition. So, a floating glaze, blues and greens, and i am really looking forward to glazing these.
These have now been glazed. Glaze info: Spectrum Floating "Glacier" all over, second level Spectrum Floating "Scandinavian Blue, bottom level Spectrum Floating "Nori Green" I used a dry brush on the transitions to blur them a bit.
Dino Crib Quilt
I found out there was a new baby expected in North Carolina! What do I do when I hear about a baby coming? I yank out my stash and see if I can come up with a crib quilt. Most of the time I'm only lacking a bit of what I need.
This one came together quickly. I was really happy to find I had Dino flannel hanging around to use as the backing.
Welcome little one, the world is looking forward to your arrival!
Star Wars Baby Quilt
I
The Accidental Bowl
I made this in my studio out west. I used a form, and wrapped it in plastic really well.
When I came back it was leather hard, so I decided to trim it as best I could and fire and glaze it. It fired great, and I used glaze to create geometric interest.
Pleased with the result. This piece is in use in our kitchen.
Introducing the bunny series:
All of them started as a pinch pot, because I adore a void!
I'm a little worried about Shocked Bunny, his ears are a little precarious
Introducing the Self Draining Soap Dish
This was another glaze with movement, and you can't really tell in the photo but it is purple glitter.
Sippy Mugs have come out of the kiln and and have been glazed with Coyote Storm Warning
This Christmas luminary is constructed using my favorite speckled red clay. There is all kinds of different textures here, and when it came out of the bisque fire, I just didn't feel any fire about it. I dislike fussy detail glazing, I prefer texturizing and letting the the glaze make that the star.
So I went shopping for a glaze with movement, and found Lagunas' Blue Snowflake, then I waited on the edge my padded seat, to see how it turned out!
I picked it up yesterday, and boy was I pleased. It's quite possibly the most beautiful piece I have ever made.
These are a pair of little snack trays. You might use them for cheese and crackers, fruit, nuts, any little snack really.
This pair of heavy mugs turned out to be one of my favorite projects. They ended up being stackable, so they take up less space on the shelf.
The rainbow detail is sweet and simple, and I just really like rainbows.
